Boating in the Kashmir Valley

“If there is heaven on earth, it is here, it is here, it is here...”

The great Mughal Emperor Jahangir was certainly not wrong when he described the valley. Srinagar is known for the Dal Lake, especially for the boating facilities available on it. Unlike its counterparts in Kerala, the house boats on the Dal Lake are moored at the edges of the lake. Such kind of boating started in the early 1900s for tourists and is still available. Since these house boats are fixed to shores of the lake, small taxi boats are used to ferry tourists from the house boat to other parts of the lake. It is but certain that these house boats are considered ‘floating palaces’.
