Row away!

The passion for boating starts off when a person is still a kid. In many schools across the globe, rowing teams are made so that they could represent the school in the boating events. In India, boating is an old tradition especially in the state of Kerala. Here, ‘snake boat’ races are organized in the months of July, August and September. Each both has about 25 singers and 100-120 oarsmen who row the boat according to a certain rhythm set by the main boatman. Thousands of people cheer their favorite snake boats during these competitions till they win. These are many stories and folklores associated with this kind of boating, which the people still hold dear.
