The Boat Race
It is a boating tradition which was started way back in 1829 by Charles Merivale, a student of St. John’s College, Cambridge and his dear friend studying at Oxford, Charles Wordsworth. According to the story, Cambridge challenged Oxford to a boat race on the Thames, England and the tradition carried on every since. It usually takes place in the last Saturday of March or the first Saturday of April of every year. The race is a joint understanding by the boating clubs of both the universities. This year, it was held on 26th March. Millions of people watched in from the river banks of the Thames and on television.
